This extensive 10-day itinerary offers a complete “Grand Circle” of Morocco. Beginning at the northern tip of Africa in Tangier, the route sweeps down through the Rif Mountains to the ancient Imperial Cities, crosses the Atlas Mountains into the deep Sahara Desert, and then loops back up the Atlantic Coast. It is a fast-paced but highly diverse journey that covers blue mountain villages, golden dunes, and breezy coastal citadels.
Trip Phases & Experiences
Phase 1: The Northern Gateway & The Blue Pearl The trip kicks off where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic in Tangier. You will explore mythological sites like the Caves of Hercules and the panoramic Cap Spartel before heading into the Rif Mountains. A major highlight here is Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City,” where you have time to wander the photogenic, blue-washed alleyways and soak in the relaxed mountain atmosphere.
Phase 2: Imperial History & The Middle Atlas Moving south, you dive into Morocco’s deep history with visits to Meknes (the Ismaili capital) and Fes (the spiritual capital). The experience in Fes is immersive, featuring a full-day guided tour of the medieval Medina, tanneries, and the world’s oldest university. The journey then transitions to nature as you cross the Middle Atlas, stopping in the “Swiss” town of Ifrane and the Cedar Forests to see wild Barbary macaques.
Phase 3: The Sahara & The Road of Kasbahs The landscape shifts dramatically to the arid beauty of the Ziz Valley and the Merzouga Desert. Here, the focus is on adventure: camel trekking across the Erg Chebbi dunes, watching the sunset, and sleeping in traditional desert tents under the stars. The return journey takes you through dramatic geology, including the towering cliffs of Todra Gorge and the Valley of Roses, leading to the “Hollywood of Africa,” Ouarzazate, and the iconic UNESCO site Ait Ben Haddou.
Phase 4: The Red City & The Atlantic Breeze After crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, you arrive in Marrakech. You will explore the vibrant souks, palaces, and the Majorelle Garden. The final leg of the tour offers a refreshing change of pace as you head to the coast. You will visit Essaouira, a laid-back port city known for its Portuguese architecture and seafood, before concluding the trip in the economic hub of Casablanca to see the massive Hassan II Mosque.

- Morocco’s main international airports are located in Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier, Fes, and Agadir. Booking flights early is recommended, especially during peak travel seasons.
- Travel insurance is highly recommended and should cover medical care, trip interruptions, and lost luggage. The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While credit cards are accepted in many hotels and major shops, it’s always good to carry some cash for souks, small towns, and local purchases.
- Morocco’s climate varies from the coast to the desert and mountains, so pack light clothing for daytime and a warmer layer for cooler evenings. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and modest clothing is appreciated when visiting mosques or rural areas.
- There are no mandatory vaccines for entry, but basic vaccinations are recommended. Tap water is generally safe in cities, though many visitors prefer bottled water. Morocco is a safe and welcoming country—just follow standard travel precautions.
- Arabic and Amazigh are the official languages, but French and English are widely spoken in tourist areas. Learning a few simple phrases like Salam or Shukran is always appreciated.
